Growing Good Food at Home

Cocktail parties were all the rage in the ’50s, and while the variety of appetizers from Rumaki to a Party Cheese Ball often took center stage, it’s impossible to have cocktail parties without Mad Men–era cocktails, like this classic!

  • Author: Addie Gundry
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 drink 1x
  • Category: Beverages

  • 2 ounces bourbon (or rye)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons simple syrup (see Note)
  • 23 dashes Angostura bitters, to taste
  • Ice
  • 1 orange slice
  • 3 Luxardo cherries

  1. Combine the bourbon, simple syrup, and bitters in a glass and stir to combine. Add the ice, then add the orange slice and Luxardo cherries.
  2. Let the drink sit for a few minutes or give it a little shake to let the flavors of the orange and cherries seep into the bourbon. Drink and enjoy.

  • To make a simple syrup, simply bring equal parts water and sugar to a boil, and stir until the sugar has dissolved.
