Cheesy Croissant Casserole

Cheesy Croissant Casserole

I remember the first time I had a bite of this Cheesy Croissant Casserole. I was at a friend’s house; she served it for brunch, and I was so surprised that something so simple could taste so good. I had to ask for the recipe and even set a date to make my first with her guidance.

The croissant was never a stranger to me as a French roll. I’ve always loved its flaky, buttery goodness. I’ve also tried some recipes that called for using croissants or making croissants from scratch, but I never thought to use them in a casserole until that fateful day. I love that my family can enjoy this dish at any time of day, and I’m so glad I finally found the recipe that uses croissants in the best way possible.

This dish cannot be passed on; the freshly-baked croissants are already irresistible on their own, but they taste even more heavenly when baked in a casserole with eggs, cheese, and bacon. Personally, the recipe gives me everything I need for a perfect brunch dish: it’s savory, cheesy, and has the perfect amount of crunch.

This Cheesy Croissant Casserole is also great for parties. It has the right amount of heartiness to satisfy everyone, but it’s also easy to eat. I’ve brought this dish to several potlucks and get-togethers, and I’ve never had to worry about leftovers — in fact, I always end up wishing I’d made more! If you’re looking for a delicious casserole and another way to enjoy croissants, then you need to try this recipe.

If you’re looking for a more savory feel for your morning breakfast, then this croissant casserole is the way to go. Pick up some freshly baked croissants from your local bakery (or even make them yourself!) to really capitalize on the rich flavor combinations.

The irresistibly crisp puff pastry and butter in a perfect croissant can become even more delicious when baked into a Cheesy Croissant Casserole.

  • Author: Addie Gundry
  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Setting Time: 12 hours
  • Cook Time: 1 hour
  • Total Time: 13 hours 20 minutes
  • Yield: 7 large croissant sandwiches 1x
  • Category: Breakfast

Ingredients

Scale
  • 7 croissants
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 14 thin slices deli ham
  • 7 slices Swiss cheese
  • 10 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Lightly coat a 9 x 13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Slice the croissants, spread each one with mustard, and fill them with the ham and cheese. Shingle the croissant sandwiches into the casserole dish.
  3. Beat the eggs in a medium bowl, add the milk, salt, and pepper, and mix well. Pour over the sandwiches and cover the dish with foil. Weight the top with a plate or cookie sheet to submerge the sandwiches in the egg mixture and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Bake, covered with the foil, for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes. Serve.

Notes

  • It’s all about the croissants! If you can find some at a local bakery, the superior quality and freshness will certainly shine through.
  • Variations: Spice the sandwiches up with pepper jack cheese or add a touch of sweetness with honey Dijon mustard.

Have you had croissants in a casserole before? What did you think of this?
