Catskill Brussels sprouts are an heirloom plant with roots that reach back to 1941. Arthur White developed this cultivar in upstate New York. These plants are stocky: the stems are on the shorter side (24 inches) and very strong, so you shouldn’t have to worry about high winds taking them down. Catskill Brussels sprouts have a rich flavor that it retains even after freezing. Because of the plant’s shorter stature, you’re not going to get a huge crop—but it will be tasty. Pick the sprouts as you need them or harvest them all and freeze them for future use. The sprouts are well-spaced with good air flow, making this cultivar less likely to contract Alternaria.
