Jewel Sweet Potato

Jewel is considered the “Queen of Sweet Potatoes” because it is the most popular variety for North Carolina commercial sweet potato growers. It produces a high yield of up to 6 short, chunky tubers per plant. The flesh of Jewel sweet potatoes is very sweet and reminiscent of deeply flavored carrots.

• Plant slips 12 to 18 inches apart
• Allow 3 feet between rows

Moisture

• 1 to 2 inches per week during mid-summer
• Deep watering in hot, dry periods will help to increase yields
• Reduce watering in late season to avoid cracking the tuber skin

• Best for boiling, baking, casseroles, and pies
