4-Ingredient Applesauce

Homemade applesauce doesn’t need to be a labor-intensive process. And you don’t need to sweat and grind over a hot stove for hours on end. All you need are four simple ingredients and a slow cooker, and you too can enjoy fresh-off-the-apple-farm applesauce

4-Ingredient Applesauce

Let me take you back to the sweet memories of my childhood, where making homemade applesauce was a delightful family affair. I remember crisp autumn days, the air filled with the scent of apples and cinnamon, and my family gathered in the cozy warmth of the kitchen.

We’d head out to the orchard, baskets in hand, picking the ripest apples straight from the trees. Back home, we’d peel and chop the apples, laughing and chatting as we worked. Into the pot they’d go, along with a sprinkle of cinnamon and a dash of sugar, simmering away on the stove.

As the apples softened, their aroma would fill the kitchen, stirring our anticipation. Finally, it was time to taste our creation. With bowls in hand, we’d gather around the table, savoring each spoonful of velvety-smooth applesauce.

Those moments spent making applesauce were about more than just the food—it was about coming together as a family, sharing stories, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. And now, as I make applesauce in my own kitchen, I can’t help but smile at the fond recollections of those cherished days gone by, but this time around I have a much more simple way to make it – a slow cooker!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 10 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup water (or apple juice)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Put the apples, maple syrup, 1/2 cup water, and cinnamon in a 6-quart slow cooker. Stir to mix well. Cover and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours, until tender, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove from the slow cooker, stir to your desired consistency, and let come to room temperature. (The mixture will thicken as it cools.)
  3. Mash or use an immersion blender to mix. Serve at room temperature or refrigerate and serve cold.
