Fairy Tale eggplant

Fairy Tale eggplant is considered one of the best-tasting eggplants. They’re fast to grow, tender, sweet, creamy, and flavorful, and they produce a ton of fruit, sometimes in clusters. They are also small, and their skin is thin with few seeds, which means you can simply slice them down the middle and throw them on the grill to cook.

  • 50 days

  • full sun

Soil pH

  • 6.2 to 6.8

Hardiness Zones

  • zones 1 to 11

Spacing

  • plants: 18 inches apart
  • rows: 30 to 36 inches apart

Moisture

  • 1 inch per week or less

Sow Indoors

  • six to eight weeks before planting

Transplant Outdoors

  • harden by reducing water and temperature to 60 degrees F for one week before transplanting
  • transplant late spring/early summer
  • once soil is consistently 50 degrees F
  • use row covers for best success, to keep soil warm, and remove once plants blossom

Notes

  • prefers well-drained soil
  • needs stakes and/or eggplant cages
  • clipping fruits encourages more production
