Lavender tea

Lavender is rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals. The best-known is limonene, which aids in digestion. An infusion of lavender (lavender tea) has also been reported to help with dizziness, fever, and laryngitis. Lavender oil has antibacterial properties and is often used to treat cuts and sunburn.

Warning: Some people have a strong sensitivity to lavender. Use lavender infusions and lavender oil with caution.

Here are some of the other ways lavender contribute to good health.

Relaxing Relief

Drinking an infusion of lavender, like a lavender tea, has been linked to a number of calming, soothing benefits: reducing insomnia, anxiety, depression, headaches, and migraines.

Allergy Fighter

Drinking warm lavender tea can help relieve the irritation of mucous membranes during hay fever season.

Digestive Health

The compound limonene in lavender contributes to a healthy digestive system. Tea made with lavender is also said to help decrease flatulence.

Healthy Skin

You can make a cleansing cream with lavender. Start by making an infusion of lavender by pouring a cup of boiling water over 4 teaspoons of fresh lavender buds or 2 teaspoons of dried lavender buds. Steep for 10 minutes, then strain. Save any extra in a glass jar in the fridge.

Then you’ll need:

  • 4 tablespoons lanolin
  • 2 ounces almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon glycerin
  • 1/8 teaspoon borax
  • 3 tablespoons lavender water
  • 1 teaspoon zinc oxide ointment
  • 6 drops of lavender oil (optional)

Directions:

  1. Melt the lanolin in a large glass mixing bowl.
  2. Gently heat the oil and glycerin.
  3. Slowly pour the oil and glycerin into the bowl with the lanolin, stirring constantly.
  4. Warm the lavender water and dissolve the borax in it.
  5. Gradually add the dissolved lavender/borax mixture to the lanolin and oil mixture, stirring constantly.
  6. When the concoction is cool and creamy, stir in the zinc oxide and lavender oil.
  7. Spoon into small airtight jars and use within a month.
