Spiced Blackberry and Peach Compote

Summertime is the perfect time to enjoy fresh fruits and berries. Blackberries and peaches are two of my favorites, and they make a delicious combination! This Spiced Blackberry and Peach Compote is a great way to enjoy them for both me and my family. My cousins say that it’s the perfect way to enjoy the summer heat, so I wanted to share this recipe with you.

When you try this recipe, the first thing you’ll notice is the bright, vibrant color that makes this compote so beautiful. The second thing is the heavenly scent of cinnamon and cloves wafting through the kitchen. Last, but not least, when you taste a spoonful and are transported to summertime bliss, you’ll know why this is such a staple recipe! The result is a sweet and slightly tart compote that’s perfect for spooning over ice cream, yogurt, or pancakes.

The blackberries add a tartness that balances out the sweetness of the peaches, and the spices give it a little bit of warmth. I like to serve it over yogurt or ice cream, but it would also be delicious on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream. Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 3 cups peeled peach slices
  • 1 cup blackberries

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Stir brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the melted butter.
  3. Add peaches and stir to coat.
  4. Cook the peaches at a simmer until soft and the juices begin to thicken, about 20 minutes.
  5. Gently fold blackberries into the peach mixture.
  6. Cook until the berries soften, about 5 minutes more.
