If you like your okra fried, then Star of David okra is an excellent choice. This heirloom, open-pollinated plant produces short, thick pods with deep ribs. When you slice them, the cross sections look like a star. These pods are thicker and shorter than traditional okra; pick the pods when they’re about 3 to 4 inches long. Plants can reach a height of 7 feet. Direct seed or transplant.

Characteristics:

  • Heirloom, open-pollinated variety
  • Developed in Israel
  • Produces short, thick pods with deep ribs
  • Good choice for frying
  • Cut pieces look like a star
  • Plant grows to 7 feet
  • Days to maturity: 80

Have you ever grown Star of David okra? Please tell us about your experiences with Star of David okra.
