Nabechan scallions have great flavor. This is a traditional Japanese variety grown for its high quality. It’s a bit bigger than other scallion varieties, and the plants grow uniform, thick shanks with no bulbing (the sign of the scallion). As a bonus, it has a reputation for being particularly easy to grow.

Characteristics:

  • Sweeter flavor than other bunching onions
  • Resists leaf-curl in hot weather
  • 60 days to maturity
  • Can be grown larger like a leek
  • Great in dishes raw or cooked
