The Mascotte green bean is a slim filet style, or haricot verts in French. Mascotte is a particularly compact variety, making it desirable as a container plant or if you’re short on garden space. This stringless, open-pollinated variety received the All-America Selection for best new edible variety in 2014. Another virtue: Mascotte is resistant to many green bean diseases such as anthracnose.

Characteristics:

  • Bush filet variety
  • Matures in 50 to 55 days
  • Disease resistant
  • Harvest when beans are 6 inches long
  • Compact shape makes an excellent container plant
  • Delicious in salads
