Marumi Kumquat

Marumi kumquat trees are similar to the Nagami, but the Marumi trees have much smaller leaves and they produce a fruit that’s more round than oval. The peel is also thinner and sweeter than the Nagami. You’ll want to just pick the kumquats right off the tree and pop them in your mouth. Marumi kumquat trees are usually grown in China and Japan; they are not as common in the U.S. as Nagami kumquats.

• Round fruit ripens in the winter
• Slightly spicy flavor
• Cold-hardy to 28 degrees F
• Trees planted in the ground can reach 8 to 12 feet
• Container trees remain small with strategic pruning
• Grow in full sun
• Grow outside in USDA Plant Hardiness Zones 8 to 11
