Dark Chocolate Ginger Hearts

Dark Chocolate Ginger Hearts are the perfect blend of decadence and health-conscious indulgence. As a chef, I’m always excited to share recipes that not only tantalize the taste buds but also offer some nutritional benefits. These treats are a prime example of how we can transform simple ingredients into something truly special.

The magic of these chocolates lies in the harmonious marriage of rich, velvety dark chocolate and the fiery kick of ginger. When you bite into one of these Dark Chocolate Ginger Hearts, you’re greeted with a satisfying snap of the chocolate shell, giving way to a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth interior. The crushed ginger candy provides bursts of warmth and spice, creating a delightful contrast to the deep, slightly bitter notes of the dark chocolate.

The texture is a crucial element in these Dark Chocolate Ginger Hearts. The smooth chocolate enrobes crunchy bits of ginger candy, offering a multi-dimensional experience with each bite. The finishing touch of sea salt adds a subtle crunch and enhances all the flavors, making the chocolate taste even more chocolatey and the ginger more pronounced.

While the combination of chocolate and ginger might seem modern, it has roots in ancient traditions. Ginger has been used for millennia in various cultures for its medicinal properties and distinctive flavor. Chocolate, too, has a rich history dating back to the Mayans and Aztecs. The pairing of these two powerful ingredients creates a treat that’s not only delicious but also potentially beneficial for heart health.

These Dark Chocolate Ginger Hearts are more than just a Valentine’s Day treat; they’re a celebration of flavor and wellness that can be enjoyed year-round. Whether you’re sharing them with a loved one or treating yourself, these chocolates offer a moment of pure indulgence with every bite.

Indulge in a sweet and spicy treat with these dark chocolate ginger hearts

  • Author: Addie Gundry
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Chill Time: 1 hour
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: 15 hearts 1x
  • Category: Desserts

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups dark chocolate melting wafers
  • 1 cup crushed hard ginger candy
  • Sea salt for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate on 50% power in
30-second increments, stirring in between each, until melted. Fold in 1/2 cup of the crushed ginger candy.
  2. Place 1/2 teaspoon of the remaining ginger candy in each well of a heart mold (15 mini hearts in each mold; see Note) and pour the chocolate mixture over the top. Repeat until the mold is full.
  3. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  4. To remove from the mold, place the mold upside-down and push the hearts out onto a plate or surface. Sprinkle with sea salt. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Heart molds can be found at a craft store or online.
