Cowhorn okra gets its name because the pods curl at the end and resemble a cowhorn. This is an heirloom, open-pollinated variety that produces tasty, tender pods up to 10 inches long. For optimal taste and tenderness, you should harvest them when they’re about 6 inches long. Cowhorn is an excellent choice for pickling, stewing, or sautéing and serving over rice. Direct seed or transplant. The taller the plant gets, the less productive it becomes. If you have a long growing season, you can do succession planting in the summer and fall.
