Burpee Seed Company introduced this variety in 1902 and claims it’s the one that made yellow corn popular. Up until then, white kernels were preferred because they supposedly signified a high-quality product. This supersweet SU variety is unusual in that it sprouts in cool soil and can be planted early in the season. Golden Bantam Heirloom corn is great for roasting.
Characteristics:
- Yields ears 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 inches
- Old-fashioned corn flavor
- Stalks grow to about 5 feet
- 78 days to maturity
- Early planter
