Welcome, October! We are always grateful to hear from our readers. A lot of times, you add some wonderfully helpful gardening advice, too!
“Every issue inspires me to try something new in my garden.”
“I always learn something helpful and unexpected.”
“Your magazine makes gardening feel fun and approachable.”
Some tips from our community:
“I read about using plastic forks as a deterrent for squirrels after no success trying critter spray to keep squirrels from digging in my containers and window boxes, Sticking them upright into the soil, invited curiosity and knocked over forks from digging.. The success was burying the forks until only the prongs were barely visible. I might add more aesthetically pleasing.”
On the best way to freeze butternut squash: “We cut in half, scoop, and then roast, usually in the microwave until soft. Then we scoop out the “purée” and freeze in vacuum sealed bags. We also store most of our winter squash in the cellar. With proper conditions it will store all winter.”
“I love the smell of sage. I learned from an Arabic friend that dried sage and regular tea work nice together.”
