“As a consummate D-I-Yer, farmer and gardener I appreciate the kinds of articles that address my interests. I wasn’t sure this site would fit me when I first subscribed, but I am so far pleased with what you offer. As long as there are articles that solve everyday farm and garden problems I will continue to subscribe. Thanks”
Some tips from our community:
Tip for vertical gardening: “I like to use 4 cattle panels in an arch, side by side. This creates a 16 foot tunnel I can walk under, and the veggies and flowers hang from the arch. It is easy, but takes 2 to set up. Pound in t-posts at the ends of the first arched panel and anchor one side to the t-posts, using (thick) zip ties to attach the short end of the cattle panel to the post. Then holding the other side of the non-attached panel, walk towards the t-posts, bending the panel into the arch. Pound in t-posts to the other side of the arch bases, and use zip ties to attach that panel too. Do that to both short sides of the next cattle panel. Also zip tie where the first and second panels are side by side, every few feet, to extend the tunnel shape. Then Add another panel adjacent, in an upside down U shape, connecting the ends and side with zip ties and t posts. I learned this from a garden whiz website called roots and refuge. Indeterminate tomatoes and beans love the arch. Hope to try it with squash and pie pumpkins this year.” – Anonymous
Tip for bypass pruners: “I have had my Felco 2’s for over 30 years ! love them , you can adjust the lock, sharpen them, get replacement blades ( though I have a spare one I haven’t needed it in all these years, only got it in case someone else happened to try cutting wire, I think they could even handle that ) I got 2 new ones as mine was lost one for me and one for hubby. I now have 3 as the “lost” one had fallen behind something. the also make leather holsters to fit them ( belt loop or clip-on) so you don’t need to put them in your pocket.” – Sheila
