Transitioning into the role of the adopted parent for the GreenPrints brand and the new GreenPrints Garden Club has been a delightful journey filled with unexpected turns and heartwarming discoveries. As I reflect on my more than 40 years in publishing, predominantly in the realm of financial, marketing, and strategy consultation, I can’t help but marvel at the peculiar twist of fate that now finds me at age 68, captaining the ship of a small literary magazine that has captured my heart.
Throughout my career, my focus had always been on the business side of publishing—maximizing revenue, minimizing expenses, and guiding publications through periods of growth or transition. Creativity was appreciated, certainly, but it wasn’t my primary domain. However, GreenPrints has brought about a shift in perspective for me. This quirky amalgamation of gardening, literary journal, and magazine has sparked a newfound appreciation for the creative essence that underpins its very existence.
Expanding the footprint of the GreenPrints brand has been a thrilling endeavor. We’ve broadened our horizons by quadrupling the number of stories published, introducing Gardening GuideBooks that marry inspiration with instruction, and launching thematic StoryBooks that offer a concentrated dose of literary delight. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of GreenPrints and its ability to bring joy and inspiration to readers seeking a balanced life intertwined with the beauty of gardening.
In our efforts to cultivate a deeper connection with our audience, we’ve enlisted a roster of regular columnists, fostering an ongoing dialogue between writers and readers. Embracing the digital landscape, we’ve enhanced accessibility by offering narrated versions of our stories, and a podcast of each new monthly issue, ensuring that GreenPrints can accompany our readers wherever they go, whether it’s waiting for a doctor’s appointment, basking in nature’s embrace at the park, or cruising down the open road.
What brings me the greatest joy now is answering the question, “What do you do for a living?” with pride as I proclaim, “I publish a small, literary magazine about gardening, and all the joy that gardening brings.”
As we chart a course for GreenPrints into the 21st century and beyond, I invite our readers to share their thoughts and feedback. Together, let’s nurture this cherished publication, ensuring that it continues to flourish and inspire for generations to come. After all, in the verdant garden of literature, every voice, every seed of inspiration, contributes to the blossoming of a brighter future.
So, dear readers, what do you think? How are we faring in our endeavor to usher GreenPrints into the embrace of the 21st century and beyond? Your insights and perspectives are invaluable as we cultivate this shared journey of growth and discovery. Please share your thoughts in the comments below. ❖
Hi! Although it is very nice to have Greenprints at my fingertips. There are somethings i would prefer as they were. It was given to me as a gift.
I really love and miss the magazines! I miss the beautiful artwork on the covers. Its just not the same on my phone. ????
I am receiving too many emails and wished they could somehow be combined. I dont care for the advertising at all.
I enjoy all the stories ( as many as i can get to). If this is the only option i will have moving forward i dont think i will renew my subscription. Howevee if you were to include an option for just receiving the magazines i would definitely continue. I liked the simplicity of that! Thank you!
I am so happy that you are enjoying the stories. If you go to the My Account page, you can update your newsletter preferences. Uncheck everything except for the Insider and then click Update Email Preferences. Another great option is to listen to the stories. You can listen to either individual stories or the entire issue at once. Enjoy!
