Spring is Springing at GreenPrints!
We all know that Spring is a time of renewal and rebirth—we see it in our gardens every year. The Winter melts away, and the soil and plants start to come alive again in what some describe as a new annual reawakening. Likewise, GreenPrints Magazine is experiencing transformational change in Spring-like fashion—and monthly issues are now better than ever! The magazine has its perennials, but we planted some new seeds to give you even more valuable content.
Here’s a quick summary of what’s new in this issue—regular features that will be included in all new monthly issues going forward:
- Gardening News: Executive Publisher Don Nicholas shares with you his monthly commentary about a real-life gardening item that’s in the news. This month, Don muses about growing—and misplacing!—tomatoes on the International Space Station (ISS)!
- Garden Planning: Every month, you get advice—and entertainment—about a practical, seasonal gardening matter. This month, Food Gardening Network’s Amanda MacArthur gives you some humorous advice about DIY soil testing in your own garden.
- Cultivating Wisdom: Regular contributor Becky Rupp is featured every month, covering topics that divulge all sorts of facts you might not otherwise know. In this issue, Becky reviews some of the science about the intelligence of plants.
- Garden Giggles: Perennial contributor Mike McGrath delivers his usual knee-slapping—sometimes gut-busting—humor about something in the garden. This month, Mike’s “A Christmas Carol? (In March?!)?” story is guaranteed to make you laugh.
- Harvesting Health: This new column is my own piece—and this month, I cover the health benefits of eating Brussels sprouts … with a little perspective about how I viewed this vegetable as a child.
- Gardening Life: These monthly gems are authored by GreenPrints Founding Editor Pat Stone—always funny and often thought-provoking.
- Seasonal Thoughts: GreenPrints Editor & Publisher Christy Page shares her garden thoughts every month—and seasonally appropriate, of course!
- Plants We Love: Every month, you get interesting and fun articles about three different plants. For this month, learn about tomatoes and a Supreme Court case; how to plant and grow wheat in your own garden; and a review of the timeless charm of magnolias.
- Recipes from the Garden: Talk about practical! Every month, you now get tasty and easy-to-make recipes that use garden-fresh ingredients. In this issue, you can make seven different dishes that will spruce up your repertoire of recipes.
And then there are the perennials in every monthly GreenPrints Magazine issue:
- Stories from the Garden: These mainstays have been part of GreenPrints for almost 35 years—“gardening stories from the heart” that will lift your spirits or make you smile or laugh. The only thing that’s different is that all nine stories in this issue have been audio-recorded, so you can also listen to them while you’re on-the-go or even while you’re gardening. When we introduced audio recordings of just a few stories last Fall, we heard from readers that they really like the recordings—so, we’ve expanded the audio recordings to include every “Story from the Garden” … every month!
- Books, Kits & Calendars: Every month, you get crafting projects that include keepsake StoryBooks, Story Collections, ArtPrints, Greeting Cards, and Calendars. This month, you get Spirituality in the Garden, Blossoms & Blunders, all about magnolias, and a Spring 2024 garden planning calendar kit.
- Letters to GreenPrints: Read messages that readers have sent us—the good, the bad, and the ugly. A great way to connect with the thinking of like-minded gardeners (maybe you’ll send us your own feedback for publishing?)!
GreenPrints is truly having a Spring renewal! Just read through this entire issue, and you’ll see what I mean.
So please enjoy this issue and all the new—sometimes practical, always interesting—content it includes. And let me know what you think.
I’d truly love to hear from you.
