Act I: The Green Thumb’s Dilemma
[The stage is set with a quaint garden scene, complete with flowerbeds and a mishmash of whimsical garden ornaments. The sun shines brightly overhead as Mother and Daughter enter, carrying pots and gardening tools.]
Mother: [Excitedly] Ah, another day in our green paradise, dear!
Daughter: [With a sigh] Let’s hope we don’t add any more casualties to our plant graveyard this time, Mom.
Mother: [Chuckles] Nonsense! With love and a sprinkle of fairy dust, anything is possible!
[They begin planting, chatting animatedly as they work. Suddenly, Daughter pulls out a plant from the ground, mistaking it for a weed.]
Daughter: Oops! Sorry, Mom. I think I just uprooted the coreopsis again.
Mother: [Laughs] Oh dear, that’s the second time this week! Perhaps we should label our plants better.
[They continue working, unaware of the impending comedy of errors awaiting them.]
Act II: Trials and Tribulations of the Garden
[The stage transitions to a montage of Mother and Daughter’s gardening adventures, accompanied by lively dialogue.]
Daughter: [Holding a wilted plant] Mom, I think we might have drowned the echinacea again.
Mother: [Frowning] Oh dear, perhaps we should consider a different approach to watering.
[They attempt various gardening techniques, from planting in the wrong spot to accidentally mistaking plants for weeds. Each attempt results in comedic mishaps and plant casualties.]
Daughter: [In frustration] Why do our morning glories refuse to bloom, Mom? It’s been four seasons already!
Mother: [Determined] Fear not, my dear! Love will conquer all, even stubborn flowers!
[Despite their setbacks, Mother and Daughter persevere, their bond growing stronger amidst the chaos of their garden.]
Act III: Blossoms of Love
[As the final act unfolds, Mother and Daughter stand amidst their garden, marveling at the sight of blooming flowers.]
Daughter: [In awe] Mom, look! Our Montauk daisies are in full bloom!
Mother: [Beaming] Ah, the fruits of our labor, my dear. It’s moments like these that make it all worthwhile.
[They share a heartfelt embrace, surrounded by the beauty of their garden.]
[The curtain falls as the audience erupts into applause, celebrating the heartwarming journey of Mother and Daughter in their whimsical garden.]

My remembrance of my daughter and me in the greens patch…rubber boots on, Louisiana has a lot of snakes and creepy crawlies. Gloves on and cutters in hands, we bravely head to the mustard and collard patch that has grown knee-high. We picked so many mustard greens that day with plenty more left behind and a lot that should have gone to neighbors. The best part of this was being with my beloved daughter. The hardest part was washing all of those greens I put aside for myself and cooked them with bacon, onion, garlic and seasonings to put on top of the waiting hot cornbread taken from the oven. This, and a lovely sweet baked potato dredged in butter is a meal unto istelf! How I’d love for these times to come back! Lovely story!
