Sunforest Mix Sunflower

By Laura Logan

Plant Profile

Sunforest Mix Sunflowers are a delightful blend of fast-growing sunflower varieties, each contributing to create a vibrant virtual sunflower forest. These sunflowers typically range in height from 10-15 feet tall, with large blooms at least a foot across. These flowers would make a perfect hide-and-seek playground—just plant your sunflower patch with pathways for wandering. Your children or grandchildren will get a Summer full of memories to last a lifetime. Or grow yourself a special backyard haven to call your own.

Soil pH

Sunforest Mix Sunflowers thrive in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH range between 6.0 to 7.5. It’s essential to ensure the soil is fertile and rich in organic matter to support healthy growth and abundant blooms.

Sun Requirements

As sun-loving plants, Sunforest Mix Sunflowers require full sun to thrive. Plant them in an area that gets at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and flowering. Insufficient sunlight may result in reduced blooming and weaker stems.

Watering Requirements

While Sunforest Mix Sunflowers are relatively drought-tolerant once established, consistent watering is essential, particularly during the early stages of growth and during hot, dry periods. Water deeply and evenly, ensuring the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Avoid overhead watering, as it can increase the risk of fungal diseases. A layer of mulch around the base of the plants can help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.

Best Plant Hardiness Zones

Sunforest Mix Sunflowers are well-suited for planting in USDA hardiness zones 4-9. These zones offer the ideal climate conditions for sunflowers, with warm Summers and sufficient growing seasons. In these zones, Sunforest Mix Sunflowers can thrive and produce an abundance of colorful blooms throughout the Summer months.

Additional Tips

Support your sunflowers: These sunflowers can grow pretty tall, and may require staking or support to prevent them from bending or toppling over, especially in windy weather.

Provide adequate spacing: Plant Sunforest Mix Sunflowers with sufficient spacing between plants (about 3 feet) to allow for proper air circulation and to prevent overcrowding.

Fertilize as needed: While Sunforest Mix Sunflowers are not heavy feeders, incorporating a balanced fertilizer into the soil during planting can help promote healthy growth and vibrant blooms.

With their dazzling array of colors and sizes, Sunforest Mix Sunflowers can add a cheerful and eclectic touch to any garden or landscape, attracting admiration from both people and pollinators alike.
