When I had the joy of putting together this collection—sifting through decades of lawn care stories we’ve published in GreenPrints—one thing became abundantly clear: lawn care is, at its very core, funny.
Whether it’s the stubborn mower that only starts when you least expect it, the neighbor with Olympic-level lawn envy, or the surprising artistry of a 12-year-old boy etching his name into the grass with a Husqvarna, these stories had me grinning, chuckling, and occasionally snorting out loud. It turns out, when you mix grass, family traditions, and a little creativity, you get tales that are as heartwarming as they are hilarious.
One of my favorite contributions to this collection is a personal story that spans generations in my own family—about how my sons, Ryan and Scott, were introduced to the joys of yard work. That trusty orange lawn tractor? It became more than just a machine—it became a stage for youthful invention, laughter, and the passing down of a love for landscaping from father to sons. (Spoiler alert: lawn mowing can be a fine art. Literally.)
I hope you enjoy that tale and the other wonderful stories I’ve selected—some tickled my funny bone, others taught me something new about lawn care that I genuinely found fascinating.
So pour yourself a glass of lemonade, kick back (on a well-trimmed patch of grass, perhaps), and enjoy the ride. Click the link below to head straight to the table of contents and explore the GreenPrints Lawn Care Story Collection.
