Stalking My Local Nursery

Is it Spring yet?

We just had a few really warm days. We hit 60 degrees and Spring was definitely in the air. I didn’t mind taking the dogs out and stood basking in the sun while their noses twitched in the air. They were smelling what I was feeling, the basking glow of Spring!

These few days caused a level of excitement in me that I cannot really describe. I immediately started looking at new raised bed gardens online. I started reading about the best times to start planting specific vegetables for optimal harvest. I even pulled out pen and paper and started to make a list of things that I need to get this year.

At the top of my list is a new fruit tree. While Penelope the peach tree seems to be doing better, she is not 100%. I have come to the decision that she definitely needs a friend. This year we will be shopping for another peach tree and two apple trees.

I eagerly went to the website and Facebook pages of my local nursery. There was nothing new on the website, and their Facebook page still had their “See you in the Spring” message pinned. Didn’t they know that Spring is here? Didn’t they feel the warmth of that 60-degree day?

Forlorn, I started scrolling through posts and images from last year. There were the fruit trees that I am longing for. Oh, but look at that! They had some gorgeous dahlias last year. Those would be beautiful up by the mailbox. And look at those lilac bushes! I can smell them already. I think my trip might require a bigger truck, and more than just a couple of trees.

I glanced at the clock and noted that an hour had passed. I just spent an hour cyber-stalking a nursery. They are not even open for the season yet, and I’m already impatiently waiting for new pictures to peruse.

Today is a reminder that it is not quite Spring. The temperature has dropped to 30 degrees, and the wind is biting. Maybe my local nursery knows better than me and is waiting for more than one fair-weather day before shouting “It’s Spring” from the rooftops. It looks like I have a little more time to wait before going to pick out my new blooms. In the meantime, though, maybe I will feel warmer just by looking at the pictures from last year. It can’t hurt!
