I like my burgers with all the fixin’s: onion, tomato, cheese, bacon. When I first tried Hamburger Soup, incorporating all those ingredients into one dish, I was in heaven. The buns act like a sponge, soaking in all the flavors, similar to the function of a bread bowl.

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Add the salt and pepper.
  2. Add the broth, tomatoes, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes.
  3. Add the bun pieces and 3/4 cup of the cheese and cook for 10 minutes more. The soup should be thick and the buns dissolved.
  4. Ladle into Serve topped with the remaining cheese and the bacon.
